Evans Heritage asserts without equivocation that Black Lives Matter and Black History Matters and we have much to do to align our work with these facts, this must be done with a sense of urgency. Like English Heritage we also welcome the establishment of the Mayor of London’s Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm and we look forward to contributing to this important issue. https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/about-us/search-news/blue-plaques-statues-and-black-lives-matter/
In the latter half of the 18th century England had a Black population of around 15,000 people. They lived mostly in major port cities - London, Liverpool and Bristol - but also in market towns and villages across the country. The majority worked in domestic service, both paid and unpaid. We welcome this section of our history 18th century by Historic England
